Sarah Gillen Redmore

As Associate Director for Community Engagement, Sarah Gillen Redmore facilitates Shaw Center community partnerships. Sarah draws on her background as an assistant professor in the School of Design, where her teaching methods focused on experiential learning through community engagement. As a self-described lifelong learner, Sarah earned a bachelor of fine arts degree in interior design, bachelor of art in psychology, and a master in business administration. This diverse educational background was combined with 14 years of professional commercial experience focused on healthcare, education and corporate environments. Sarah’s interdisciplinary exploration resulted in a human-centered, inclusive approach to creative problem solving. She shares her passion for social responsibility by partnering with local non-profit and community agencies to create service-learning opportunities for students. As a Shaw Center practitioner-scholar, Sarah collaborates with campus and community partners to create sustainable initiatives that meet the needs of the community while enhancing academic learning objectives. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn”. This quote perfectly captures Sarah’s approach to teaching and learning in higher education.
