Shaw Center Leadership Intern Position Description
A Shaw Center Leadership Intern is a working member of the Mary Ann Shaw Center, building skills, and gaining supervised practical experience which can be applied to future endeavors, whether professional, academic, or personal. A Leadership Intern supports day-to-day operations, participates in collaborative work to enhance the student experience, and facilitates diverse community partnerships. Each position is associated with a specific initiative/program with work conducted both in-and-out of the office. Flexibility and openness to learning is essential to the position.
Literacy Leadership Intern
Students who work at the Shaw Center as Literacy Leadership Interns are directly involved in the administrative coordination and implementation of Shaw Center literacy initiatives. The position is opened only to Shaw Center literacy initiative participants who exemplify the values of the program and want to take on a leadership role in the administration of all the Shaw Center literacy initiatives.
Syracuse University Literacy Corps Council
The Syracuse University Literacy Corps Council, created during the fall of 2000, was designed to develop student leaders within the SU Literacy Corps Program. The Corps Council is a group of tutors who assist in the leadership and administration of the SU Literacy Corps. Members are selected via an application process and the size of the group varies depending on applicants’ leadership experiences. Members of the Corps Council assist with recruitment, training and implementation process of new tutors.
