Classroom Orientation and Placements

The Mary Ann Shaw Center for Public and Community Service designed a placement process that incorporates the needs of faculty, student and community partner. The Shaw Center serves as a clearinghouse for faculty to integrate service learning pedagogy into their curriculum. Student placements are developed on a course by course basis with the objective of meeting the needs of the community partner.

As part of the placement process for students, the Shaw Center developed Community Orientation sessions highlighting demographic and geographic information on Syracuse and Onondaga County to facilitate the transition from classroom to community and help students make informed decisions before beginning their placements.

The Shaw Center provides ongoing continuous support for faculty, students, and community partners throughout the service learning experience.
