Engineering Ambassadors is completing its 10th semester of engaging engineering, science, and technology programming. Under the direction of the Shaw Center and with support from SRC, the initiative brings College of Engineering and Computer Science (E&CS) students together with sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students at Ed. Smith, H.W. Smith, and Westside Academy schools, as well as the Hillside Work-Scholarship Connection at the Phoenix Center. respectively. During the initiative’s workshops on Friday afternoons, E&CS students serve as role models, leaders, and friends to the students while facilitating hands-on science activities. The activities are designed to increase middle school student interest in the engineering, science, technology, and math (STEM) fields, as well as promoting healthy relationships with adult role models. The initiative’s mission is to spark a lasting passion in STEM fields early in the lives of these students, with the ultimate goal of encouraging them to pursue those interests into high school and post-secondary education.
